A ‘limitless à la carte buffet’ is the USP at this popular suburban Chinese, which is done out in “fetching”, modern oriental mode with bamboo motifs, glass panels and fish tanks. Despite the ‘buffet’ tag, however, you aren’t expected to help yourselves: instead, a brigade of attentive staff in smart tunics take orders and bring the food to your table. The Szechuan specialities have been given the thumbs-up for authenticity, but you can also get shredded smoked chicken, beef in oyster sauce, kung-po prawns, char sui pork and other generic favourites. To finish, the novelty ice creams are a reminder that this place relies heavily on families (half-price deals for the under-10s). A note on the menu says that leftovers can’t be taken away, and there’s a charge for what they call ‘wasting of food’.
