Take a wander down Brighton beachfront towards Kemptown and you'll come across Yellowave Beach Sports - Brighton's very own beach volleyball and sand-based sports centre. This is the place to be if you're interested in beach volleyball lessons or taking part in competitive games and leagues, but it's also home to the Barefoot Cafe, which is worth stopping at if you're refuelling after a match, or just walking past on the seafront.
The natural wood interiors are bright and breezy, with tables and booths inside available for those who want to sit and have a drink or tuck into the all-day menu. In the summer months when the sun is out, Barefoot Cafe's extensive beach terrace is always busy with guests, who get to watch volleyball as they enjoy a sandwich or a cup of coffee, and there's a big decked area that looks out across the volleyball courts towards Brighton Pier.
The menu is easygoing, with a range of breakfast dishes, as well as sandwiches, soups, salads and stews. In the morning you can grab a bacon sandwich, crunch on a bit of toast or enjoy cheesy beans on toast or a stack of pancakes. From lunchtime onwards, there are sandwiches like bacon, lettuce and tomato, tuna mayo and salad and mozzarella, tomato and basil. If you're in need of something more substantial, Barefoot Cafe also cooks up nachos, jacket potatoes, homemade soup and bowls of veggie chilli and rice, and there are ice creams available too if you want something sweet.
Drinks-wise, organic coffee comes from Bristol-based Red Roaster Coffee, and Barefoot Cafe also has wine, craft beer, juices, and smoothies too.
There are also kids options on the menu, and a free sandy play area to keep your kids busy.
