Banks Bar Bistro is scenically set in a grade II listed building called the Old Granary, in the centre of Bishop’s Waltham, an attractive little town between Winchester and Portsmouth. Its
experienced chefs, who are Michelin star trained, serve up quality Modern British cooking with a continental twist, at very sensible prices. Start with the twice-baked Roquefort soufflé, which
melts in the mouth, or for something sturdier go for the game terrine with fig confit. Mains include a classic fillet of beef en croûte and juicy tiger prawns with garlic and herbs. For pudding,
the dreamy crème brûlée just cries out for the company of a glass of Muscat de rivesaltes. To refuse would be a crime. The set lunch is particularly good value, with two courses for £10.95 or three
for £12.95, and in the summer you can eat outside and enjoy the sunshine.
