Trying to pick a place for dinner but struggling to decide on one cuisine? It’s the age-old tale of going out to eat in big groups, where no-one can decide on the same thing. Enter Banana Tree. At this restaurant you don’t have to pick from one cuisine, you can go for Thai, Vietnamese, Singaporean and a host of other south-east Asian dishes with this huge menu that is bound to satisfy even the fussiest of eaters.
We recommend picking lots of starters and sharing them so you can get a taste for as much as possible on the menu. Go for the Sticky Thai wings, vegan gyoza, Singapore laksa soup, Mekong prawns or Malaysian kajang satay. After getting your fill of starters, its regional specialities insure that you are getting the most authentic pan-Asian dishes outside their countries of origin. Try the ‘legendary’ chicken and beef rendang; sweet and sour stir fry; or keep it simple with a Thai green curry. From the grill, opt for the Indonesian chicken jawa or Hoisin duck with cashew nuts for a change to your regular Chinese takeaway duck and pancakes.
After your meal, take a peek at the cocktail menu. The wild selection of tasty concoctions and cheekily named cocktails mean we doubt you'll stop at just one (with two for one why would you?). Order the rum Mai Tai with almond syrup, lime and pineapple juice, Pink Panther with tequila, peach schnapps and grenadine, Midori Sour or One Night in Bangkok (it’s cheaper than a plane ticket after all).
Once you’re finished eating and cocktail drinking, venture out in to Battersea or Clapham Junction (Banana Tree is five minutes from the station) to continue your night with the comforting feeling of fullness, and maybe a slight buzz from all those cocktails.
