With its decent prices, relaxed atmosphere and undemanding comfort food, Balans has grown into a fully fledged group these days, but maintains its reputation for quality food and drink across it's five locations. If you're visiting Westfield Shepherd's Bush (or you're in West London for other reasons, perhaps visiting nearby Queens Park Rangers on match day) then stop by Balans for a modern, all-day British menu.
There's lots to be said about the interiors too - the clean, sophisticated, minimal design benefits hugely from ample natural light via the floor-to-ceiling windows at the front of the restaurant, and there's a spacious terrace out front as well for al fresco dining on warmer days.
The quality all-day offering is another Balans hallmark. Drop by in the morning for anything from a full English to a breakfast burrito, steak and eggs or lobster Benedict, as well as pancakes and proper coffee. Brunch dishes are available all day, but come at lunch and you'll also find an array of sandwiches, burgers, small plates and large mains also on offer. Sandwiches range from a falafel and hummus wrap, to a togarashi buttermilk chicken doughnut, or a miso salmon burger, and larger plates include the likes of fish and chips, barbecue ribs with fries, Thai red curry, chicken enchiladas, and prawn linguine.
If you have room for dessert you'll find comforting choices like vanilla cheesecake, warm doughnuts, and chocolate sponge with Amarena cherries. The drinks selection is just as wide-ranging as the food, from Martinis, Margaritas, spritzers and house mixes (try the Summer Sizzle - Balans No.60 gin, melon and pineapple) to a clutch of affordable, globe-trotting wines.
