There’s likely to be quite a buzz in this modern Middle Eastern restaurant (offshoot of the Battersea original), with Bababoom’s cheerful staff keeping things zipping along. The attraction? Meat cooked to blackened perfection on a mangal grill, supported by colourful salads and flame-licked flatbreads (as well as meat-free options such as broad bean falafels and Greek Mastelo cheese). Kick things off with creamy hummus and tangy rose harissa labneh, ahead of saffron and orange chicken shish kebab (moist and moreish) or rotisserie lamb shoulder – richly marinated and the perfect match for a side of smoky smashed aubergine dotted with pomegranate seeds. Is most of the food simply posh kebabs? Well yes, but we aren’t complaining when they taste so good. To finish, grilled peach Melba with melted marshmallows is tough to resist. Decent wines and cheeky frozen Margaritas share the drinks list alongside Bababoom’s own draught brew Baba’s Beer. Come here too for midnight feasts (after 11pm) or a breezy weekend brunch, with harissa scrambled eggs among the highlights.
