This cosy Italian trattoria in Cambridge Street – close to the Royal Concert Hall and the Theatre Royal - is a bonhomous place which attracts a black polo-necked, broadsheet-reading Glaswegian crowd who come to indulge in pre-theatre bowls of spaghetti and mid-week tables for two. Regulars at Azzurro have been returning for years for the impressive wine list which features wines from Italy, South Africa and Chile, and the authentic Italian cuisine. Moreish, homemade dishes at Azzurro include the penne amatriciana with smoked bacon, white wine and tomatoes; the Mediterranean fish stew served with garlic bread; and the pollo firenze – chicken stuffed with prosciutto and cheese baked and served with Napoli sauce and grilled asparagus.
