After 18 years of success in Chelsea, the Azteca brand has opened a second restaurant in Battersea with Azteca Oma. While Azteca in Chelsea is focused on bringing an authentic taste of Mexico to London, the site in Battersea offers something a little more nuanced with an exciting fusion between Japanese and Mexican cuisine. The concept behind this second site is to push the boundaries of high-end dining, offering guests something totally unconventional and unique.
The menu at Azteca Ome promises the innovative use of British produce, along with exciting drinks, fantastic service, and great fun. Of course, each dish seamlessy blends Mexican spirit with Japanese influences to create unlikely but harmoniously-balanced flavour combinations.
When it comes to the food, diners can expect dishes ranging from grilled miso cod tacos with pickled daikon and salsa roja, to raw dishes like bream tiraditos with seaweed crumb, cancha, and ponzu.
Plates are designed to be shared, so bring a couple of friends to enjoy a selection of dishes. Further examples of exciting fare include a showstopping piece of whole-grilled Cornish mackerel, which is served with a jalapeno and miso dressing, combining two of Japan and Mexico's quintessential flavours. If you're mad about mushrooms, you may like the sound of the mixed mushroom tobanyaki cooked over a grill for ultimate smoky flavour. Elsewhere, discover Maitake mushroom tacos with artichoke puree and salsa negro blackened jalapeno.
For those looking to eat outdoors during the summer months, they can do so on the small alfresco terrace. While for post-dinner drinks, guests can visit the late-night bar: La Fiesta.
Azteca Oma took over the site that was once home to The Breakfast Club. It finds its home on Battersea Rise, just off the Northcote Road and a short walk from Clapham Junction station.
