We chose just about the most beautiful building we could find for our ASK Italian restaurant in Wells: the Market Hall on Market Place. Of course it can’t compare to the sheer majesty of Wells Cathedral, or the moated Bishop’s Palace, both a few minutes’ stroll from our doors, but the historic architecture of Wells is one of the main reasons the city is such a lovely place to live and so popular with holidaymakers.
We bring a little continental culture ourselves, overlooking the river with a view of Bishops castle, we boast a menu crammed with dishes flavoured with ingredients straight from Italy, and a friendly, relaxing atmosphere.
Outside the city there are more natural and manmade wonders to explore. We recommend the Mendip Hills and Somerset Levels, Cheddar Gorge and Wookey Hole Caves in particular, but a stop at Wells Visitor Information Service in Wells Museum will allow you to plan a perfect itinerary. It’s just a five-minute walk from our restaurant.
