Australian Jason Wells is the brains behind this group of all-day restaurants, as well as the Brew café chain. The restaurants share a stylish casual Aussie vibe – with cheeky nods to the land down under including pics of Kylie and Jason on the loo doors – plus winning features such as the cosy wood-burning fireplace at the Richmond site and gorgeous outdoor terrace at Putney. The on-trend seasonal menu is peppered with international influences and kicks off with breakfast choices ranging from soft boiled eggs with Vegemite soldiers or treacle-cured bacon sandwiches, to avocado on sourdough with chorizo and feta or indulgent blueberry pancakes. Lunch choices favour lighter options, including hake and crab fish cakes, alongside steak frites and burgers – with a great range of sides to pimp your order. Dinner meanwhile features crispy wood-fired pizzas (great for family feasts) as well as more sophisticated dishes like barramundi fillet or veal escalope. This is crowd-pleasing stuff that generally hits the mark, though cooking can be slapdash at busy times. There are enough positives though – friendly service, interesting veggie dishes, and a well-curated drinks list – to put Antipodea on the map.
