Friendly neighbourhood Italian that has never disappointed us.
We've been using this restaurant not far short of 20 years and we've probably visited 100 times. We're by no means local, and its not unusual for us the struggle through traffic for an hour to get there, passing by a number of ostensibly similar places on the way. Its by no means a gourmet establishment, and indeed the place itself looks like a couple of days hard work could see it returned to the butcher's shop it once was. The food is homely and reliable rather than spectacular, and if they've just had a beer delivery you might find some stacked under your seat. There's a blackboard full of specials to supplement the more constant main menu.
We keep going there because in all those visits we've never been given anything bad to eat, never had a meal that has been either rushed or unreasonably slow; because they serve things we specifically like (The Proscuitto and melon is standout, and the grilled calamari are pretty good too); and because the service is invariably pleasant and polite. Further on several occasions a week they take 50% off the food bill and to be honest if you're getting a couple of decent, freshly cooked courses for two with decent coffees and a bottle of house wine for under £40, then you're getting a bargain. Its the sort of place we all need in our repertoire
