Run along similar lines to Amarone in Edinburgh, this capacious all-day Italian sits in a prime spot in one of Glasgow’s main shopping areas, just a stroll from the Royal Concert Hall – no wonder it’s a popular one-stop shop for anything from breakfast and proper cappuccinos to retail therapy lunches and pre-symphony suppers. Traditional trattoria food is the order of the day: as well as 15 different pizzas and 13 pastas (rigatoni with crumbled Italian sausage and ricotta, ravioli filled with roasted peppers and goats’ cheese, pennette with porcini etc), there’s also a roster of dishes ranging from beef carpaccio and minestrone soup to char-grilled veal cutlets, steaks or tiger prawns in a cream sauce on black tagliolini. Not surprisingly, the list of mainly Italian wines features a handful of classy vintage Amarones.
