From the same team behind Argentinian restaurant Sucre comes Alma, a subterranean cocktail bar in the heart of Soho serving innovative mixes and sharing plates. The bar is led by Tony Pescatori, who previously managed popular cocktail bar Nightjar, where he helps to curate the progressive drinks menu. Guests are invited to descend the stairs to this seductive space just off Great Marlborough Street, kick back with a unique drink and vibe out to an eclectic playlist of disco, funk and soul.
Italian-born Tony boasts an impressive career in the world of drinks. He joined the team at Shoreditch House in 2010, before moving to Nightjar in 2012 we he started to gain recognition amongst the London crowd. He's helped develop the cocktail menu for many party spots across the capital, as well as led seminars, workshops and takeovers in over 30 countries. His eclectic cocktail menu at Alma looks to celebrate the forgotten traditions and lost crafts of bygone eras.
The interiors are designed by Victoria Vogel and combine original 18th century features with 70s accents. Think original brickwork and raw materials incorporated with soft corduroys and velvets, as well as bronze mirrors and wooden veneers.
The drinks, meanwhile, are bold and experimental, and span flavours from across the globe. Examples include The Palm, featuring Ciroc Vodka, date and mango juice, Yemeni Myrrh and Champagne, as well as Clay which combines whisky, Ming River Baijiu, Osmanthus Tea, Makrut Lime and Green Szechuan and Umeboshi preserved plum.
There is also a short food menu from which diners can indulge in some of the dishes also available upstairs at Sucre. Designed to be shared with loved ones, examples on this list include cheese and onion empanadas, mini stone bass tostadas and pork belly and spiced pineapple sandwiches.
