Allegria is located on the beautiful waterfront of Largs, North Ayrshire. We look forward to Allegria Eatery serves traditional Italian dishes in a distinctly Scottish setting. Its setting on Largs’ seafront looks out over the Firth of Clyde, offering views of the Isles of Cumbrae and Arran. The town also retains links to its Viking past, having been the site of a battle between Scottish and Norwegian forces in 1263.
The menu touches on all aspects of Italian cooking, with several courses running into double figures for choices. Starters include classics like minestrone soup, bruschetta and Caprese salad, as well as mussels in a white wine sauce and king prawns in a spicy tomato sauce. You can also opt for sharing starters. There’s an antipasto and the novel crostini - eight slices of garlic bread finished with a variety of toppings.
Mains are either pasta, pizza, fish or meat. Pizza options are plentiful and combine the traditional with exciting new takes. For the former there’s margherita and pepperoni, while the latter is strongly represented by the Allegria speciale (apple, goats cheese, pine nuts, honey and cos lettuce) and pizza al pistacchio e burrata (courgette, pistacho, burrata and pesto).
Pasta choices are in equally large supply and don’t stray too far from the classics. Lasagna, carbonara and puttanesca are all on offer, as well as beef ragu and ubiquitous bolognese. There’s also three types of risotto - seafood, chicken and mushroom or porcini. If you’re after meat, choices range from a pan seared duck breast to veal saltimbocca to an extensive mixed grill, priced at £49.95. Cod in a white wine sauce, grilled sea bass and octopus are the seafood offerings. To close out a meal at Allegria Eatery there is, of course, tiramisu. The dessert theme is extended into the cafe menu. This features a banana or strawberry Nutella calzone and affogato.
