Albert’s Schenke (or ‘Albert’s Tavern’) is a beer house in Liverpool, which also serves traditional German food and a fixed price menu from Monday to Thursday. The tavern can be found on the corner of Duke Street, and is festively decorated with blue and white checked Paulaner beer Oktoberfest flags. Albert’s Schenke is rightfully proud of its wide selection of German and British beers, and is a particularly great place to go for an Oktoberfest celebration. Ablert’s Schenke also stocks Liverpool Rein, an English beer made in the Bavarian style using German malts and yeast. If you prefer German spirits you’re in luck, as the tavern has collaborated with Hoyle Bottom Spirits to distill a range of Schnapps in a variety of flavours such as pear and alpine honey.
Throughout the week Albert’s all day fixed-price menu offers various German favourites such as pretzels, bratwurst and spaetzle. On Sundays the tavern also serves a ‘Haus Roast’, which includes a wide selection of meats from Lancashire beef to Bavarian pork knuckle. The main menu at Albert’s is less German focussed. Customers can order kebabs, hummus and flatbreads as well as Caesar salad and ham, egg and chips. Both the main and Sunday roast menus also offer options for children.
A highlight of Albert’s Schenke - as well as the beer - is the selection of freshly baked pretzels. These pretzels are baked locally at Albert’s Schenke’s twin restaurant, Albert’s Schloss (Albert’s Castle). Customers can enjoy a simple pretzel, with some mustard and pickles, or go all out and enjoy a pretzel sharing platter. The platter comes with cheese, pate, and bier cheese sauce.
The tavern also puts together a bottomless brunch on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, which it calls the ‘Knees Up’. The ‘Knees Up’ comes with bottomless beer (or the slightly less German option of Pornstar Martinis) as well as pub favourites like cheeseburgers and fish and chips. The last booking for brunch is 3.15pm.
