Aik Sitar is a luxurious Indian cuisine restaurant located on London's The Strand. The concept was dreamt up by Head Chef Rishi Kapoor who began his culinary journey amongst the markets of Delhi, learning from seasoned chefs, and went on to research, learn and practise the breadth of this country's vibrant cuisine in the likes of Kerala and Mumbai.
Aik Sitar first began in Jaipur, where it's known for both traditional dishes and modern cooking techniques, and has gained a stand-out reputation. The central London location is also helmed by Chef Rishi Kapoor, and distinguishable by its colourful interiors, with terracotta-red walls, impressive lighting and plenty of plants and greenery.
There is a main a la carte menu to choose from, starting with appetisers such as king prawn marinated in herbs and spices, served with spicy tomato, carrot sauce, and honey, alongside a mixed platter of mince lamb samosa, chicken tikka, gilafi sheek kebab and onion bhaji, perfect for sharing with the table.
Moving onto mains and there really is plenty to choose from, as well as traditional dishes such as chicken kurma in a creamy cashew nut sauce, and a lamb saag cooked in spinach, garlic, and ginger garnished with julian, there's also a whole host of Aik Sitar specials.
From this list, we like the sound of the Bengali style crab curry with succulent crab meat cooked with onions, tomatoes, garlic, ginger, turmeric, green chili and mixed herbs, or there's the lamb a la nilgiri with coriander, green chilli, spring onion, cashew nuts, parsley and mint. You should also check out the seafood specialities such as Goan fresh water fish curry, which sounds delicious.
If you don't fancy going out, the team at Aik Sitar are more than happy to deliver to your home, and alternatively, if organising an event, make the most of the intimate private dining and space and options to have a special dessert.
