The spectacular Muthu Newton Hotel overlooks the rugged coastline of the Moray Firth and the fishing town of Nairn, up in the craggy highlands of Scotland. With Nairn Golf Course just a short walk from the hotel, Muthu Newton is popular with links golfers, and it also boasts 21 acres of parklands and gardens of its own.
The hotel was originally built as a family home in the 17th century, but it has since seen some pretty major expansion and renovation - it now boasts 63 bedrooms, as well as a state-of-the-art conference centre, a plush lounge bar and a restaurant.
Guests can dine in the elegant and tidily-furnished Charlie Chaplin Restaurant - named as such as Chaplin regularly frequented the Muthu Newton Hotel. As well as offering an a la carte menu, Chaplin's Restaurant also offers a variety of afternoon teas, for those who wish to while away an afternoon in the highlands with tea, cakes, scones, sandwiches and Champagne.
You have a choice of four different afternoon teas at Muthu Newton: a standard cream tea of scones with tea or coffee; Chaplin's Speciali-tea, which adds finger sandwiches and pastries; the Newton Highland Tea, which adds a glass of Pimm's, fresh strawberries and chocolate dipping sauce; or the Newton Celebration Tea, which swaps Pimm's for a glass of prosecco. Whichever of the latter three you choose, you can expect classic finger sandwiches like Cheddar and pickle, cucumber and cream cheese, honey roast ham and tomato, and egg mayonnaise, alongside fruit scones, whipped double cream and a range of preserves.
Afternoon tea at Muthu Newton Hotel is served all year round, and though there may be plenty of other afternoon teas around the Highlands, there are few that boast quite the same view so bring your friends, sit back, and indulge in the finery of scones and finger sandwiches.
