Set in the subtly opulent dining room of Cut at 45 Park Lane, chef Wolfgang Puck’s first European venture, this restaurant’s afternoon tea is an American take on an English classic. Director of food and beverage chef David McIntyre pays tribute to his US roots with a menu that combines American treats which are equal parts savoury and sweet. From the finger sandwiches, a creamy and tangy tuna tartar sandwich filled with avocado and ginger is among the standout bites, while another crowd pleaser is the tender Wagyu beef slider, which is smothered in a satisfying amount of garlic aioli, among other American-style nibbles.
Next up are sweeter treats which arrive in the form of peanut butter and jelly Twinkies, which are arguably better than the branded original, and a cola cake and caramel corn macaron made to look like a cheeseburger. Though traditional teas and Champagne are available, a selection of fruity and zingy iced teas and American craft beers are served as well. Waited on by attentive staff, your glasses will remain regularly topped up and your stomachs will be pleasantly satisfied. As an American take on a British institution, CUTcakes & Tea is ideal for those seeking a different kind of afternoon tea experience at a price that isn’t too bad for Mayfair.
