Oh, to have a local like The Greyhound Inn. This lovely free house in Pettistree, Sussex, combines a historic building and rustic, heritage interiors, with a contemporary menu that puts a focus on seasonal produce and local suppliers.
While The Greyhound Inn doesn't have a private dining space, the team are more than happy to welcome larger groups or special occasions. We know that when planning a special occasion, you'll want to bring together your nearest and dearest over fantastic food and wine, which is why The Greyhound Inn is such a great shout. Head Chef Adam Spicer has won multiple awards for his work here and is constantly developing new dishes in tune with seasons, with the menu often changing every few days.
Currently, this looks like starters of wild rabbit with blood cake, topped with pistachio and apricot terrine with stout mustard, alongside Isle of Wight tomatoes with stracciatella, lovage and Bedlam Farm radicchio. For mains, we like the look of Wild Suffolk bass with clams, Norfolk samphire, Jersey Royals and vermouth sauce, as well as Maple Farm peas and broad beans as a tasty vegetarian option, served with braised spelt, Broughton sheep’s cheese and girolles. Sometimes, you'll find specials on the chalkboard and through the summer months there's also BBQ options, but only on certain days of the week.
As for those with a sweet tooth, get stuck into puddings like fig leaf crème caramel with boozy prunes, or whimsical, local recipes like wild strawberry ice cream, Suffolk cherry sorbet or gooseberry sorbet made from fruits plucked straight from the allotment.
It wouldn't be a celebration without some drink options and the team have worked hard to curate an interesting wine list, as well as delicious cocktails made with homemade syrups.
