Head Chef Gordon Craig and his wife Lucy dreamed up the idea of Taisteal while travelling through China. They imagined a restaurant in which they could experiment with the flavours and techniques they'd learned while away, while making the most of the incredible local produce in their native Scotland.
The result became Taisteal; an intimate, neighbourhood restaurant in the heart of Edinburgh, where dishes are influenced by the world over and change regularly, but always use as many locally sourced ingredients as possible. With the help of their brilliant but tiny team, the restaurant has been recognised in the Michelin Guide, AA Guide and the Good Food Guide, as well as become beloved by those who live in the city.
If you're looking for somewhere special to host a birthday party, important meeting or just a long, over-due get-together, the gang at Taisteal would be happy to help. While you won't find any specifics on the website, you're invited to give them a call or email to discuss your party size and any wants or needs.
When it comes to the food, the a la carte menu spans three courses with plenty of choice for each. For example, when it comes to starters, smaller plates could look like foie gras and chicken liver mousse on truffle brioche, alongside prawn gyoza with chicken skin, lemongrass and shellfish bisque.
The main courses are as equally diverse in flavour, such as 24-hour lamb belly with lamb meatball, pistachio gnocchi, whipped feta, dukkah and lamb jus, next to grilled monkfish Parisian Gnocchi in chorizo and tomato stew, plus roast cauliflower with curried cauliflower puree. And those with a sweet tooth will love the sound of desserts like pink praline and rose creme brulee, and black sesame baked alaska. Delicious!
