Set within a stunning Grade-II listed building, L’Ortolan is a sophisticated contemporary French eatery that is the only restaurant in Reading to hold a Michelin star. The restaurant also offers private dining opportunities, with three dedicated spaces to choose from. It is also worth noting that L’Ortolan does not charge room hire fees for any of its private dining rooms.
The first and largest private dining space at L’Ortolan is The Glass Room. Able to accommodate up to 22 guests for a sit-down meal, The Glass Room is an elegant and relaxed space which gets its name from the large windows that wrap around the room, flooding it with natural light, although if it’s a grey day, crisp white blinds can be lowered. On the other side of the room, you will find exposed brick and eye-catching artworks lining the walls.
For smaller parties, check out The Wine Cellar, which can welcome up to 16 seated guests at any one time. The Wine Cellar is a dramatic and striking space, featuring walls painted in a deep red hue, crushed velvet drapes, a vintage oversized mirror and a glittering chandelier. Guests are seated around one large circular table, ensuring that everyone is able to be a part of the dinner party chatter.
The most intimate space at L’Ortolan is The Champagne Room. Found on the venue’s first floor and with room for just 12 seated guests, The Champagne Room is a stylish space with a real wow-factor. Guests sit around a singular, specially commissioned bubble-etched glass table which rests on a timber beam, while high-back chairs, gold decoupage effect walls and a 1940s Venetian mirror add to the luxe feel. There is plenty of natural light too, which flows in through a large window that is draped in honey coloured tulle.
