Gouqi is a prestigious fine dining restaurant serving up Chinese cuisine under the watchful eye and skillful hand of chef Chee Hwee Tong. Tong is already extremely well known in the industry for his work at luxury restaurants across Asia and the UK, and in particular his role at Hakkasan as Executive Head Chef.
Now, he's bringing his own unique flair to London's restaurant scene with Gouqi which is based around the concept of promoting health and wellness, inspired by the vitality-rich properties of the goji berry. The menu uses only the finest, freshest ingredients to reflect Chinese flavours but with Tong's own take. Gouqi specialises in tasting menus and amplifies dishes with an expertly curated selection of drinks from the restaurant's traditional wine seller. Bar Manager, Jamie Rowe, is passionate about finding the best Chinese and Goji wines and offers an innovative cocktail menu that pays homage to the four Chinese mythological creatures; the Azure Dragon of the East, the Vermillion Bird of the South, the White Tiger of the West, and the Black Tortoise of the North.
For those hoping to enjoy Gouqi's magic for a special occasion, you're in luck, as the restaurant boasts two private dining rooms and a semi-private dining area. The secluded areas are named the Crimson and the Ruby rooms, and are interconnecting so that they can be altered depending on your needs. Alone, they can accommodate eight and 10 people respectively, or 20 when combined.
When booking the Crimson or Ruby rooms you are invited to dine from the eight-course taster menu. The menu changes seasonally, but dishes you can expect to try include Botan Ebi tartare and octopus with rice wine, alongside chargrilled silver cod with yellow bean sauce and passion fruit, and Champagne mango sago pudding and golden sesame ball with custard.
