Exeter is a small city with a lot of oomph. Aside from lovely restaurants with private dining rooms, you’ll find plenty of activities to fill your trip with - no matter how long you’re staying. This shouldn’t come as a huge surprise, especially given that the city predates even the Romans. For a spot of history, check out the incredible Exeter Cathedral or take a free tour of the city’s unique underground passages. Elsewhere, the Royal Albert Memorial Museum is perfect for getting the whole 2000-year history in one place.
As important as soaking in the rich history is, we recommend a bit of shopping too. Exeter is famous for its independent arts scene, including music, sports, festivals and theatre. If you prefer the great outdoors, or simply need to walk off your feast from the night before, then head to one of the awe-inspiring walking spots nearby. Haldon Forest Park has a great loop that only takes two hours, while longer walks include the five-hour Woodbury to Budleigh Salteron, which passes by Woodbury Castle, Budleigh Common and the River Otter.
Unless you’re local to Exeter, you’ll probably need somewhere to stay after your private dinner. Thankfully, there are plenty of lovely spots to stay in, including affordable inns, cosy B&Bs and more luxurious hotels and spas too. They’re the perfect way to round off your trip. So, start booking your private dining experience in Exeter at one of the venues above, then you can get on with the fun part - organising the guestlist!
