Artichoke opened its doors in the historic market town of Old Amersham back in 2002, offering locals a neighbourhood restaurant with a difference. Owned and led by Chef Patron Laurie Gear and his wife Jacqueline, Artichoke's selection of high-quality menus are inspired by modern European dining, using only the best locally sourced ingredients with a focus on hyper seasonality.
The restaurant has received plenty of accolades over the last 20 years, as well as glowing reviews from the press, but in 2019 the team were thrilled to be awarded a coveted Michelin Star. This fact has made Artichoke only more beloved by its diners and makes it the perfect place to enjoy a special occasion, not only thanks to the tasting menu but the private dining space which is available for exclusive use.
You see, the food is not the only stand-out thing about Artichoke, its setting within a 16th-century Grade II Listed building also makes this venue an ideal place to celebrate. The interiors are beautiful and draw on Laurie's time in Scandinavia with typically muted tones and organic materials, pieced together by designer Fiona Johnston Parke from the award-winning Emily Todd Hunter studio.
On the first floor, the self-contained dining room has lovely views out over the town and boasts a flexible layout so whether you are planning a birthday party or corporate affair, the team can work with you to design the right kind of event. Plus, champagne fans will also be happy to know that the restaurant has a partnership with the prestigious Charles Heidsieck Champagne House as part of the exclusive private dining room package and bespoke wine flights can be curated for your group.
As for the food, you are welcome to discuss with the team, but we have to recommend the tasting menu with dishes such as Cornish lobster with scallop mousse, English garden peas, fennel dressing and pork belly crisp.
