The Railway in Putney is a renovated old pub that offers a variety of spaces for private hire across three floors, as well as comforting pub food and drink. It first opened back in 1889, but over the last century and a half, The Railway has seen its fair share of face lifts; while the venue has changed several times, its most recent iteration honours the original name and vibe of a traditional London boozer.
On the ground floor, exposed brick walls and leather banquettes in rich green hark to the building's past, while quirky artwork and a modern menu bring it into the present. If you're looking for a place to book a large table for friends, family or colleagues for a special event, simply get in touch with the team and they'll help you make the space your own.
But, if you're imagining something a little bigger, there's also a whole host of private dining spaces which offer complete exclusivity. Starting off with a bang, all three floors can be hired with a total capacity of 620 people standing - which would make one hell of a party - or 80 seated. A slight step down would see you hire the middle floor, with enough room for 180 people standing or 10 seated for an intimate supper.
Finally, both The Carriage and The Dining Car have space for 12 and six people respectively, if you were picturing a birthday dinner, small wedding breakfast or perhaps important meeting. Plus, if the weather's nice, you could also take over the rooftop, which has some space for mingling but a lot of tables, too, ideal for a sunny alfresco lunch.
Catering is provided in-house and while there isn't a specific private dining menu, the main menu gives you an idea of what to expect. Small plates might look like crispy chicken thigh with sriracha ketchup, main dishes like confit duck ragu tagliatelle and sharers like the Butcher's Block with Scotch egg, sausage roll, fried chicken, pork belly bites and chipolata.
