About Osea Island

Osea Island is a space that has a rich and enchanting history. It has been occupied for over 5000 years and to this day, a number of neolithic villages remain, along with viking burial grounds that hosted the famous battle of Maldon in 991 AD. After the war, Osea fell into the ownership of Cambridge University, and was declared a site of special scientific interest because of its unique ecology, rare plants, birds and marine life. Despite still being home to these beautiful gifts from nature, it returned to private ownership in the 1950s and has now become a centre for classic sailing boats.

If you're hosting a special event, then book out Osea Island, as whatever the occasion, the team will work with you to create something that creates memories that will last for many years to come. The venue stands out, being so rich in history and a space of beauty, this tidal island is uniquely close to the city and has capacity to host intimate gatherings and larger scale events. Here, you'll find a range of stylish houses, cottages and apartments that can accommodate your guests.

The Shack is a space with a variety of indoor and outdoor event spaces and has a 24 hours music and drinks license. The Bomb Factory, on the other hand, The Shack is a space with a variety of indoor and outdoor event spaces and has a 24 hours music and drinks license. Built during the First World War, Power House was used to house the island's electricity generating station, and now, this lofty character space is a popular choice for events that need a blank canvas – like wedding ceremonies. Lastly, The Puffin is a 300 year old building that has low beamed ceilings and an Inglenook fireplace. On site, there is a private dining room and meeting room, which is able to be booked separately.

Testimonials For Osea Island

World Travel BlogJUNE, 2024

Sitting here on that Sunday evening, drinking a good bottle of Shiraz over the tender echo of Radio 2, was a few hours of perfect bliss; it was as if I‘d be allowed to relieve someone else‘s memory of the 40s, I was my very own Captain Jack in the war, imbued with all the romance and adventure of a bygone era.

Nice Burton

The GuardianJANUARY, 2024

Osea‘s philosophy is a laissez-faire one: visitors can wander anywhere, help themselves to Raleigh Chloe bikes – with special fat tyres for the tracks and beaches – borrow DVDs from the library, play pool and table tennis. In the summer there is croquet, mini golf and beach volleyball, you can swim in the heated outdoor pool and of course the sea. There are few notices and only a couple of hand-painted signs – to ‘the bomb factory’ and ‘the shack’, both of which are converted warehouses with dance floors empty and waiting for the music.
