If you like a bit of local history with your pigs in blankets, you can be transported back to London’s great fairs of the 18th and 19th centuries at the
Museum of London.
Inspired by the time that Londoners could play on the frozen River Thames, the museum will be dressed with bunting, Punch and Judy stands, and traditional market stalls. There will also be a Christmas tree in the entrance hall.
After passing through the 17th-century Pleasure Gardens and the Victorian Walk, guests will arrive in the Sackler Hall, with its show-stopping 360° LED ellipse. As if that wasn’t enough, hire also gives you access to the Galleries of Modern London during the first hour of the party.
Starting at a mere £67pp, packages come with several options for add-ons so you can tailor them to your needs. Capacities reach more than 1000 people, so don’t shy away if you’re a big group.
Thankfully the food won’t be frozen – in fact, it’s looking really inviting. We’re especially intrigued by some of the canapés: iced apple and turnip tartare; the mutton pie with a rosemary pastry; and the toasted gingerbread with goats curd and truffle honey. The bowl food has some eye-catching dishes too, such as butternut and blue cheese mac and cheese.
If you’re looking for something less extravagant and more intimate, you can opt for the museum’s galleries and terrace rooms.
