The history of Moorgate can be traced back to the 15th century, when it was part of London’s city walls having a gateway into the city. There were once three distinct areas to Moorgate, which was one of the last parts of London to have such wide open land. But throughout history, things changed - the gate was dismantled and the area became a popular hub for business and trade during the 18th century and onwards. The Guildhall calls Moorgate home, with this town hall standing as the administrative headquarters for the City of London, a historic building that was constructed in 1440.
