The Mechanics Conference Centre is a Grade II listed building that, you got it, was established to be a space where artisans could engage in the study of science – mechanics and chemistry. The building is also best known as the birthplace of the TUC, which was founded in 1868. Located in the city centre near to transport links, car parks and the Metro, the Mechanics Conference Centre is these days frequently used for a range of events, thanks to its many flexible spaces.
There are a range of rooms to choose from for your event at the Mechanics Conference Centre, including The Large Hall, which is the most popular room thanks to its versatility. This space can seat up to 120 people in a cabaret style and 180 in a theatre set up. The UIA Lounge was refurbished in 2011, and is the ideal space for breaks and a bite to eat during events, especially when they last all day. The lounge is located next to the two main event spaces, and can also be booked out for smaller events. Then there's The Congress Room, which is named after the first ever Trades Union Congress meeting that was held here, with an old world feeling to it. Located next to the bar and lounge, this space is a popular choice for drinks or breakouts.
For meetings and more corporate style events, The Woods and The Jack Flanagan rooms are set up in boardroom style, and can be a great base if you need to get a committee or team together. Bigger meeting spaces such as The John Tocher Room which has space for 100, the Mary Quaile for up to 50 and Peterloo for 80 guests are other great options, and could be used for drop in events, large conferences or presentations. Last but not least, there’s The Dean Room, which is a smaller boardroom with beautiful stained glass windows.
