London Transport Museum Acton Depot is a sister site to Covent Garden’s London Transport Museum. Not only is the Acton Depot home to the majority of the Museum’s collection, it also opens to the public for special events and is available to book for private guided tours.
The depot is home to over 320,000 items, ranging from old transport vehicles through to signs, posters, photographs, original engineering blueprints, uniforms and more. All together, this collection is one of largest and most comprehensive of its kind in the world.
London Transport Museum Acton Depot is popular as a venue for team building and away days, as you can book private tours of the collection, and get a rare glimpse back in time at urban transport history. Depot Discovery tours include a look at historic buses, trams and London Underground trains, as well as vintage maps and signs, all explained in detail by a knowledgeable volunteer guide.
Other guided tours are available, including a Design Icons tour that covers some of the figures that had a hand in designing recognisable vehicles and images, like the Routemaster bus and the London Underground roundel and map. You can even get into the cab of some rare old Underground trains and check out the view from the driver’s position.
The depot has also often been used in filming and photography, particularly for period photoshoots and television, as it is home to restored vintage tube carriages. It is available to book for filming and photoshoots.
