If you're looking for a space to host a birthday party, brand event or corporate function in Hampshire, Gilbert White's House and Gardens could be just the thing. If you didn't already know, Gilbert White was a pioneering naturalist from the 18th-century, who lived and worked in Selbourne and dedicated much of his works to understanding the natural life there.
Now, his beautiful, historic home is a much-loved museum and also an atmospheric place to host events. In terms of spaces available, the 16th-century barn is arguably the jewel in the site's crown with its high ceilings, traditional beam-work and plenty of space to host family and friends. Alternatively, for slightly smaller affairs you can even set up shop inside White's home, taking over two of the period rooms within his former dwelling. There's also White's Bistro, a sweet cafe-bar, if you'd pictured something more low-key.
Finally, The Great Mead provides a picturesque location for an outdoor soiree. The team are happy for you to use a marquee, teepee or bell tent on the grass area which looks out to the meadows and parkland beyond. Another special touch comes in the form of Gilbert's Brewery, which offers the chance to create your own brew for your event, giving the day or evening a personal touch.
Depending on your event, the team are happy to offer you the space for as long as you need it. For example, weddings are always given exclusive use of the entire site for the whole weekend to ensure that the day runs smoothly and you are given complete piece of mind, while day rates are also offered for corporate events that don't need evening hours. Simply chat to the team and they'll help work out the best package for you.
