About Festival Theatre

The Festival Theatre is located at the heart of Edinburgh, and is easily reachable for guests travelling from far and wide. There is a beautiful auditorium inside the venue that dates back to 1928, so you will be immersed in history. In fact, The Festival Theatre is situated on Edinburgh's longest continuing theatre site. It was once the royal Amphitheatre, then Dunedin Hall, Newsome's Circus, the Empire Palace and the Empire. So, you can only imagine the stories these walls have to tell. But the venue as you see it today was redone in 1994, and relaunched as The Festival Theatre with a brand new stage, a glass facade and front of house areas.

Today, at just over 2,500 square feet, the Festival Theatre stage is the largest performance area in Scotland and the third largest in the UK. This beautiful space is home to the Scottish Ballet and Scottish Opera, and has been a key venue for many years for the National Theatre of Scotland, along with Edinburgh Festivals. The seating capacity is 1915, so you can fit quite a number of guests through these doors! Throughout the year the venue plays host to a number of contemporary dance performances, large scale musicals and event theatre, with international ballet and opera productions and a variety of stand up comedy and live music shows.

So, it’s no surprise that this venue is a great choice for those who are looking to host a large-scale event in Edinburgh’s city centre. We know that you’ll have a great time, and be looked after wonderfully by the specialist event team who are used to assisting with large scale get togethers.
