Organising a Christmas party and looking to veer away from tradition? December seems to come with a constant supply of roast turkey and all the trimmings, and whilst there’s certainly a time and a place for this, it can be nice to add some variety back into the festive season.
Introducing Shoryu; the brainchild from the team behind Japan Centre, Europe’s largest Japanese food hall at Westfield London, which brings Londoner’s an unbeatable selection of Japanese groceries. So it comes as no surprise that you’ll find a similar cuisine on the menu at the restaurant. Expect the likes of a Tonkotsu ramen with a 12 hour rich pork broth, char siu bbq pork belly, nitamago egg, kikurage mushrooms, spring onion, red ginger and nori seaweed. Among other classic flavours, you’ll also find ramens with a twist such as the piri piri tonkotsu that has some added heat through jalapenos and a ‘top secret’ spicy gochujang sauce. Beyond the ramens you’ll find a variety of curries, donburi and a number of sides such as chicken karaage, pork gyoza and takoyaki - deep fried diced octopus balls with japanese mayo, takoyaki brown sauce, bonito flakes and aonori.
To kick the party up a notch you can get stuck into the drinks menu, which is a carefully curated list of wines, beers, and cocktails. Split between original and classic cocktails, you’ll find all the old favourites like Aperol Spritz, as well as those with a Japanese flare such as a yuzu mojito and a cedroni - a japanese twist on the classic negroni with campari, martini rosso, tarusake and benedectine. Of course if you’re looking to keep it authentic, you’ll also find a number of sakes to wash down your dinner, including the festive option the gingerbread flavoured hot junmai sake.
