West London’s Notting Hill is one of the capital’s most beautiful and picturesque neighbourhoods. You’ll no doubt know this part of London for its iconic pastel coloured houses and busy street market. Plus, Notting Hill is the setting for the 1999 Richard Curtis romantic comedy of the same name. You can still visit the bookshop which Hugh Grant’s character owns. The film was a huge hit and many of the scenes were filmed in and around the area, including Portobello Road, which has only made Notting Hill more popular on screen. There are a range of attractions to enjoy in Notting Hill, with avant-garde theatres, vintage shops and many traditional pubs. The star attraction of Notting Hill's events calendar is the annual Notting Hill Carnival, which takes place every August bank holiday. The largest street festival in Europe, this carnival brings vibrant Caribbean colours and themes to the streets of west London.
