Set right on Winchester’s historic Broadway, Winchester Guildhall has quite a history of its own. Although this magnificent building wasn’t officially constructed until 1873, the site’s history harks back to 899AD when it was a nunnery, founded by Aelswith - the widow of King Alfred the Great. The echoes of Guildhall’s history importance are present everywhere you go within this expansive venue.
Recent modern renovation has brought Winchester Guildhall bang up to date, making Winchester’s largest multi-use venue perfect for large and small Christmas parties. It’s a thorough flexible venue that hosts everything from cosy private celebrations to large gala dinners and Christmas drinks parties.
The largest of those spaces is the Bapsy Hall, a bright, elegant Victorian hall, which retains many period features including arched windows, and mirrored upper balconies with fixed seating. With capacity for up to 550 standing guests, or 300 seated for a Christmas banquet, the Bapsy Hall is one of the largest private hire spaces in Hampshire, and also boasts a built-in AV suite with projection available.
Among the other smaller spaces, the King Charles Hall is also notable, as a beautiful long blank canvas space, with portraits on the walls, wooden beams overhead and Guildhall’s signature period Victorian features. It makes a superb space for a Christmas drinks party, with a series of towering arched windows filling the hall with natural light.
Other spaces are available for cosier get-togethers and private dinners. Winchester Guildhall can also assist with services including catering and licensed bar services, security, stewarding, and AV technical support.
