We know we say it every year, but didn’t the last 12 months fly by? Without wanting to sound like a broken record, we can never quite believe it when New Year’s Eve rolls around for another year.  

In many ways, it’s overshadowed largely by Christmas festivities, hidden behind a smokescreen of tinsel and turkey until bam – it's December 31 and you realise you’ve forgotten to make plans. Let this year be different! We’ve rounded up all the best places to celebrate New Year's Eve in London in 2024, to ensure you’re ahead of the game with your pick of the coolest parties the city has to offer, of course. 

London's New Year celebrations range from VIP parties to quirky bashes and we have got the scoop on the very best of the bunch. Every year it seems as if the festivities are just getting bigger and better, with more and more restaurants across the capital creating bespoke, one-night-only menus and organising bottles of bubbly and live entertainment to allow you to really celebrate in style. 

But we understand that not everyone wants to celebrate that way. For others, it's all about spending it with the right people, adding a little splash of celebration to distinguish it from just being like any other night. It doesn’t matter if you are looking for a big-budget NYE dinner in a restaurant that overlooks the fireworks or if you want to keep things cheap and cheerful in a local pub, there will be a New Year’s celebration that’s just right for you.

Where to watch the New Year's Eve London fireworks

Traditionally, the New Year’s Eve fireworks in the capital are a staple of 31 December, complete with thousands of spectators all crammed together along the South Bank. Although there were a few years where the fireworks were put on hold due to covid, they are back a bang (pardon the pun), with 100,000 tickets released for the big show.

There’s another firework fiesta in store for 2024, with tickets released in batches starting from Friday 18 October at midday with other opportunities throughout November and December.

Even if you don't manage to get a ticket, there should still be places where you can enjoy a view of the London fireworks for free. Head up Primrose Hill or Parliament Hill, or secure yourself a spot at Greenwich Park or Vauxhall Bridge. Wherever you choose to stand, wrap up warm and expect the show to be concentrated around the usual area - The London Eye - from around midnight.

Located on the 52nd floor of The Shard, awesome views are already a given, but the team at this swish bar are known for taking things to new heights with cabaret performances, classic tunes, and a resident DJ. Kick off your evening with canapes and bubbly, before moving on to bespoke menus of Japanese cuisine.

TING Restaurant & Lounge, London Bridge

Why: Another glamorous offering from the Shangri La Hotel, this time perched on the 35th floor of The Shard, pan-Asian restaurant TING often serves up a special menu for New Year’s Eve. Last year, diners could choose from one of two sittings – the first being at 6pm and the second at 7:30pm – where they were treated to a four-course meal, such as native lobster with daikon salad, or char siu scallops with white soy broth, along with half a bottle of Champagne each. Of course, all diners are privy to spectacular views of London’s skyline.

Thames Luxury Charters, Tower Hill

Why: If you’re looking to get your 2024 off to a stellar start, then why not take your celebration to the water? Thames Luxury Charters offers stylish and classy spots to ring in the new year, as well as the promise of a front row seat to the fireworks. 2024's festivities have plenty on offer, including a four course feast, Champagne on arrival, followed by unlimited wines, beers and soft drinks. You'll also be treated to live music the entire night - first from a live band, and then moving on to a DJ who will keep things going long past midnight.

Why: You’ll be hard pushed to find somewhere with better views of the fireworks this New Year's Eve than Tattershall Castle, a luxury Thames boat with 90 years of experience hosting celebrations. The best part? You’re guaranteed front-row seats directly opposite the London Eye. This year, it's hosting a party to remember with canapes and Champagne, alongside spectacular views of the city. Searcys at The Gherkin, The City

Why: Ring in the New Year at the top of one of London’s most iconic skyscrapers. The Gherkin is throwing another dazzling party this year, with DJs, unlimited food and drink, and a front row seat to the fireworks from The Gherkin's enormous panoramic windows. Aqua Shard, London Bridge

Why: Of The Shard’s trio of restaurants, Aqua Shard is undoubtedly home to the best view. The floor-to-ceiling windows ensure a jaw-dropping sweep across the capital, while the modern British menu features accomplished, hyper-seasonal dishes which prove that there’s more to Aqua than just its view. Think three course menus with canapes, Cotswold white chicken terrine, and roasted wagyu sirloin. Of course, such great views come at a (rather high) price, but it's worth it in our opinion, especially as a DJ promises to keep the party going well into January 1st.

Aqua Kyoto, Soho

Why: The seductive interiors and high-quality Japanese fare are enough to lure the crowds into Aqua Kyoto any day of the week, but the restaurant makes for a particularly attractive New Year’s Eve venue. To ring in 2025, there’s a set menu up for grabs. Start with a glass of Champagne and follow with wagyu beef carpaccio, lobster gyoza, and sushi yuzu prawn tempura. It doesn’t stop there, Aqua Kyoto hosts a DJ for guests to party the night away. If you're planning on going all-out this year, try to secure one of the limited tables on the heated, covered outside terrace for views of London's best (unofficial) fireworks displays.

Why: Plenty of sky-high restaurants have opened in London in recent years, but OXO Tower Restaurant still boasts one of the best views in London. The eighth-floor restaurant features glass panelled walls and a terrace for some spectacular views of London below, while the menu comprises plenty of sophisticated modern dishes, with dedicated vegetarian and vegan menus available too. Starting with a glass of Champagne, enjoy three courses each expertly paired by the head sommelier with live music until 1am. After that, dance the night away in the OXO Tower Brasserie

SUSHISAMBA Heron Tower, Liverpool Street

Why: Looking for a venue with a bit of the ‘wow-factor’ to ring in the New Year? SUSHISAMBA brings glitz and glamour in spades, from its location on the 38th-39th floor of the Heron Tower. Known for its panoramic views of the city, you won’t find many spaces in the capital with a better view of the fireworks. Throw in creative menus of Japanese, Brazilian and Peruvian cuisine, and a couple of signature cocktails, and you’re bound to start 2024 the right way.

Florattica Rooftop Restaurant, Aldgate

Why: If you’re looking for an Instagrammable spot to make your NYE photos look incredible, then it has to be Canopy by Hilton. This hotel boasts its famous sky-high restaurant, Florattica Rooftop, which comes complete with its party atmosphere, globally-inspired menu and rather spectacular views of some of the city’s most iconic landmarks - it’s the perfect place to sit back and sip on some bubbly whilst watching the fireworks.

The Pem, Westminster

Why: It’s hard to imagine a better last meal for 2024 than one crafted by award-winning chef Sally Abé. Served just a few minutes from the firework display at the London Eye within the rosy toned dining room of The Pem, the menu is available as five or seven courses. Dishes include sliced scallops with kohlrabi and clementine granita, cep risotto with chestnut and puffed grains, hay aged duck with delica pumpkin and roasted quince, and blood orange sorbet with juniper and charcoal cream. For an extra slice of luxury, go for an expert wine pairing.

Bentley’s Oyster Bar & Grill, Mayfair

Why: Celebrate the end of the year with crisp Champagne, freshly shucked Oysters and style aplenty at Bentley’s Oyster Bar & Grill. Expect luxury on every corner, whether you opt for the full dinner menu complete with seafood specials, oysters, caviar and shellfish, or you simply fancy nipping in for a pre-party drink from the Champagne trolley in the Swallow Street Rooms. Gouqi, St James’s

Why: Known for its glossy Peking duck, served tableside, Gouqi offers a stylish spot to ring in the New Year. This signature dish was on its New Year’s Eve menu last year, along with plenty more tastebud tickling dishes that are sure to bring joy on the last day of 2024. Kick things off with a dim sum platter, followed by its ‘legendary’ duck pancakes, beef with black pepper sauce, silver cod with yellow bean sauce and passion fruit, and dark chocolate with matcha and goji berry to finish.

Why: Set within the luxurious Rubens at the Palace, a five-star hotel in Victoria, The New York Bar feels like the perfect place to ring in the new year. There is no Times Square Ball Drop, but you’ll be in for plenty of live music, a selection of small plates and a bottle of premium Champagne to share between two. Alternatively, if this is just a warm up for a big night, go for two festive small plates and two cocktails for just £59 per person.

Why: You can expect live jazz music and late night dancing multiple times a week at 28-50 By Night, and New Year’s here takes things to another level. Sit back in one of the plush, velvet seats, a cocktail in hand, and soak up the lively atmosphere in this low-lit, moody restaurant. Tuck into a five course menu that features serrano and Manchego croquettes, fresh crab salad, a fillet steak with red wine jus, alongside a selection of tempting desserts. The evening will also include a bottle of Ayala Champagne and live jazz music all evening.

Sale e Pepe, Knightsbridge

Why: Iconic, glamorous Sale e Pepe has been a fixture of Knightsbridge life for over half a century, and a recent refurb has it looking like a brand new restaurant. Famously popular with everyone from Hollywood royalty to musicians and politicians, where better to welcome in the New Year with a La Dolce Vita set menu of classy Italian cooking. The set menu here kicks off with porcini mushroom soup, and follows with beef carpaccio tagliatelle with white beef ragu, seabass with king prawns, and a triple chocolate mousse cake. The party continues late into the night with Champagne galore.

Chelsea Harbour Hotel, Chelsea

Why: Chelsea Harbour Hotel makes for a rather classy spot to ring in the new year, and this year's festivities are sure to impress. A five-course feast is on the cards for 2024, with a welcome glass of Champagne and half a bottle of wine per person also part of the package. Last year's indulgent dishes included dry aged beef tartare with pickled mushrooms, Orkney scallop with compressed apple and cucumber, and venison with a beetroot fondant and heritage carrots.

Hard Rock Café, Mayfair

Why: Boasting legendary burgers, live music and memorabilia-filled interiors, Hard Rock Café is known for its party atmosphere, making it the perfect spot to head down to on 31 December. Why: If you’re serious about your Indian food, we’d suggest dining at this fabulous Atul Kochhar restaurant, as he was the first Indian chef ever to win a Michelin star. Kanishka’s New Year’s Eve menu normally invites guests to choose three courses from its a la carte menu for a fixed price. Our choice? We'd start with its signature chicken tikka pie, followed by Kashmiri Rogan Josh, and rasmalai with saffron poached pear to finish.

L'oscar Restaurant, Holborn 

Why: L'oscar is all about glitz and glamour, the 2024 New Year’s Eve Gala is taking it to new heights. This year’s show is an homage to the unique interiors of L’oscar, with spectacular burlesque and cabaret influenced by the theme of birds and wings that inspired interior designer Jacques Garcia. Expect eight acts in total, some performed from within a golden birdcage, and choose between a gallery view or go all out with tickets for the Baptist Bar. It isn’t cheap, mind, with tickets starting from £345, but you certainly get a night to remember for your money.

Why: One of the most beautiful locations with brilliant views, the New Years party at Savage Garden promises an unforgettable start to the year.
