Birmingham Repertory Theatre, also known as Birmingham Rep or The Rep, is in Centenary Square, north of Broad Street in the city centre. Home to Britain’s oldest building-based theatre company, it was founded in 1907 and moved to its current home in 1971. The building won a Royal Institute of British Architects award the year after. Today The Rep produces a broad spectrum of drama from its three auditora. The House (825 seats), The Studio (300 seats) and The Door (130 seats).
The House makes for a truly unique wedding venue. It can be fully customised to meet almost any need, including full use of backdrops, tech and AV, props and even a car on stage. Up to 240 guests can then dine on stage while the wedding band plays from an elevated orchestra pit, with this capacity nearly doubled if opting for just a drinks reception.
The Studio is the perfect venue for a large wedding party. The theatre seats are removed but the stage remains, resulting in a spacious dining area and sizable dance floor, perfectly positioned in front of a band.
The Door is the smallest of the three auditoria, resulting in an intimate setting that can easily be infused with theatrics. It’s the ideal space for a standalone, self-contained event, and, like the Studio, the theatre seats can be removed to create an open and fully customisable venue.
In addition to its theatres, The Rep also has a series of smaller, more conventional spaces for private hire. This includes meeting rooms (many of which can be adapted to cater for wedding or party meals) that overlook Centenary Square and the mezzanine area that usually serves as the foyer during stage productions.
