About The Minories Art Gallery

There’s something irresistibly romantic about the Minories in Colchester thanks to its listed Georgian building and intimate garden surrounds. Couples who choose to get married here will say their vows in the walled garden which has been registered with the Essex Garden Trust while the background folly building is believed to have been built around 1745.

The folly might be one of the earliest surviving buildings of the Gothic Revival and has a Grade II listed status. The beautiful arches of the building create a traditional background to your promise to one another, while the cobbled floor and lush flowerbeds of the garden create a fairy-tale feel. Guests will be accommodated on gorgeous rattan chairs that add to the whimsical feel.

Because the space is very much outdoors it’s ideal for a spring or summer wedding, when the warmer temperatures will ensure your comfortable come your big day. However, should the unpredictable British weather play up come your wedding day the folly provides some shelter from rain, while guests can be protected with a range of hire umbrella options from various UK suppliers. When you’re about to marry the love of your life, a little water won’t dampen your spirit.

When it’s not hosting weddings The Minories is a contemporary art gallery run by Colchester School of Art, making this the ideal setting for creative types. There’s also a pretty tearoom on site which can provide simple refreshments or your guests after the  ceremony. Run by Tiptree, specialities here include classic cream teas.

If you want the romance of the space for a ceremony but prefer a more traditional wedding venue to host your wedding breakfast at then that can of course be worked around. There are so many beautiful wedding venues close by that you can easily transport guests between The Minories and wherever you choose to play host to your evening celebrations, ensuring a fun two-part experience for family and friends.
