The Mill House Hotel & Restaurant

The Mill House Hotel is a hotel and wedding venue in the village of Swallowfield in Berkshire. It was built in 1823 as a grand Georgian family home on what was the Stratfield Estate, owned by the Duke of Wellington. This quintessentially English styling and large well manicured gardens mean it is the perfect backdrop to the big day. All weddings are also exclusive, giving the couple and their guests total control over the house and its gardens.

Mill House is licensed to conduct civil ceremonies, meaning the entire wedding from start to finish can take place in a single location. At the foot of the main garden is the Duke’s Marquee, a stunning permanent marquee that makes for the ideal setting for a ceremony at any time of year. It seats up to 120 guests for a seated reception, expanding to 200 for the evening reception. Weather permitting, the large bi-fold doors can be opened onto the lawns, bringing the gardens into the room while also providing shelter. There are also several options inside the house. The Garden Room seats 70 and the Cottage Suite seats 30, perfect for more intimate occasions. Both these rooms offer superb views of the gardens. A totally outside ceremony comes courtesy of the Cedar Pavillion. Located in the middle of the lawn, this can hold 120 guests.

The wedding breakfast typically takes the form of a three course sit down meal and comes via the hotel’s team of kitchen staff. Menus are usually British with a modern twist, reflecting both the historic present and vibrant present of the venue.
