You might not be able to copy Prince Harry and Meghan Markle by holding your wedding in St George’s Chapel in Windsor Castle (or having the town’s roads closed off while you parade in an open-topped carriage) but if your heart is set on a regal wedding in Windsor, the Sir Christopher Wren Hotel and Spa is the next best thing.
Close to the Windsor-Eton bridge in Windsor town centre, the hotel has views of the river Thames on one side and the ramparts of Windsor Castle on the other. The location is undoubtedly the hotel’s greatest asset as a wedding venue, with the riverside terrace not only a stunning setting for photos and drinks receptions, but also a magnificent venue for small civil ceremonies in fine weather; if the sun isn’t shining, the adjoining Sienna Room, with its deep-red chairs and curtains, can host intimate wedding lunches and dinners.
Larger parties should investigate the hotel’s two other suites. The largest is the Princess Suite, which can accommodate parties of up to 100 guests in a light-filled room with views over the river through huge windows and comes complete with a private bar and direct access to the riverside terrace.
For parties of up to 50 guests, the Windsor Lounge is the hotel’s new wedding space, with a private courtyard offering outdoor space in summer.
Extra attractions include the option of arriving at the venue’s private jetty by boat, as well as the hotel’s Wren’s Spa. Take advantage of a facial or massage to relax before the big day, or unwind afterwards in the sauna, relaxation room or outdoor jacuzzi.
Couples are entitled to a complimentary stay in the bridal suite overlooking the Thames on the night of the wedding, while wedding guests can take advantage of discounted accommodation rates.
