Shendish Manor is a hotel, wedding venue, and golf course in Aspley, just outside Hemel Hempstead in Hertfordshire. The original manor was built in about 1300, changing hands several times over the next few centuries before coming under the ownership of Charles Longman, part of the renowned Longman publishing firm. The current structure dates to Longman’s stewardship, with the gardens designed by famous landscaper Edward Kemp. Used as a British Army cap during the First World War, it became a hotel in 1994.
Shendish Manor’s blend of Victorian design with modern amenities means it is an ideal wedding venue. The 160 acres of surrounding countryside are the perfect place to capture photos of the big day, with this rural setting still easily accessible by car. Guests and the newly married couple alike can spend the night in one of the 70 beautifully designed bedrooms. Up to 15 of these are included as standard in all wedding packages, as well five for the night prior.
Smaller weddings are housed in the Manor House, which seats 15 to 96 day guests and 160 evening guests. This room retains true to its mid-Victorian roots, resulting in a grand, memorable and distinctly English setting for both exchanging of vows and the celebrations that follow. Bigger occasions take place in the Aspley Suite. This holds 50-320 day guests. The hotel’s civil ceremony licence means the whole day can be housed in a single location. A range of wedding packages help to simplify the planning process, with all occasions planned alongside a member of the hotel’s dedicated planning team. Wedding breakfasts typically take buffett form. Other options include a hog roast and made to order wood fired pizzas.
Guests and the married couple can also take advantage of Shendish Manor’s 18 hole championship golf course. This includes both playing a round and also as the backdrop for unique and quirky wedding photos.
