The Queens Hotel is in Cheltenham, Gloucestershire. Built in 1838 and named after Queen Victoria, it was one of the first purpose-built hotels in Europe, constructed on what was previously Sherborne Spa. King George III arguably started Cheltenham’s reputation as a fashionable spa town, inspiring fellow royalty and nobility to visit the town and ‘take the waters’. The hotel is a superb example of neo-classical architecture. Its imposing facade filled with over 50 Corinthian columns was modelled on the Temple of Jupiter in Rome and is expertly complimented by carved cornices and Georgian windows.
Grade II listed since 1955, The Queens Hotel has been recently restored to its former glory, combining the building’s original late Georgian design with modern luxuries. The result is a superb wedding venue in the heart of Cheltenham. Queens is licensed for civil ceremonies comprising up to 120 guests, meaning the whole day can take place under one roof. Those after a religious ceremony with the subsequent party at the hotel can use one of several local churches.
The Regency Suite makes for a wedding backdrop like no other. Its floor-to-ceiling arched windows and golden chandeliers hark back to the hotel's late Georgian roots, offering the perfect place to make a grand entrance. Decorations are entirely up to the couple’s taste, and, like the rest of the big day, are meticulously planned alongside a member of the hotel’s dedicated events team.
An in-house team of chefs is equally on-hand to determine what shape the wedding breakfast should take. Everything from a six course tasting menu to opulent evening buffet is on offer, ready to be enjoyed in a setting fit for royalty.
Once the celebrations are over, the couple can retire to one of the most elegant bridal suites in Cheltenham. Guests can also stay over in one of the hotel’s rooms.
