Wedding venues in Oxford don’t come more historic than the magnificent Oxford Town Hall. This Grade-II listed Victorian hall was opened in 1897 by The Prince of Wales, and it has been central to life in the city ever since.
Carefully and proudly maintained ever since, Oxford Town Hall is a grand space for a wedding and offers five stunning rooms for civil weddings and partnerships. The largest of those venues is The Main Hall - the Town Hall’s crown jewel, which boasts breathtaking balconies, a towering domed ceiling and capacity for up to 500 guests (plus another 242 around the balconies). The Main Hall has hosted the likes of David Bowie and Nelson Mandela over the years, so your wedding will be in good company.
Equally beautiful is The Assembly Room, which features anothing spellbinding ceiling and impressive candle chandeliers. Wood panelling, oil paintings and a vast period fireplace give the room a reassuring, old-world vibe, and though not as big at The Main Hall it still has room for 160 guests at a ceremony, or up to 200 for a reception.
The rest of the options are more intimate - there’s the 100 capacity, walnut-panelled Old Library with its stained glass windows, the cosy St. Aldate’s Room for up to 40, or the quirky Court Room, which features the original dock and benches from when this was a courtroom for the city.
Whatever part of the Town Hall you choose to host your wedding, you won’t be short of beautiful settings for photographs, whether it’s sweeping stone staircases, balconies or unique little nooks and crannies. As soon as you book your wedding, Oxford Town Hall’s experienced team is on hand to help you plan your perfect day, and can advise on which room might work best for you, offer advice on suppliers, catering and more.
