Munstone House is a hotel and wedding venue near Hereford. Just two minutes drive from the city centre, it was built as a country retreat for the Howard family in 1853, who held the dukedom of Norfolk, and whose most notable member is Catherine Howard, former wife of Henry VIII and queen of England. The house and its surrounding gardens retain this sense of mid-Victorian grandeur and combine it with modern updates.
Sweeping countryside and well-maintained gardens provide the perfect backdrop for the all-important wedding photos. Guests can use these surroundings however they see fit, whether that’s posing in front of the feature water fountain, or venturing further afield into the nearby farmland for some stunning views of the setting sun.
Munstone House is licensed to conduct civil ceremonies, meaning the whole day can take place under one roof. These are hosted both indoor and outdoors, with each setting providing its own unique charm. The couple can decorate these however they see fit and all weddings are planned and executed alongside a dedicated member of the hotel’s events planning team.
The same rooms are then quickly converted to host the wedding breakfast. Munstone House prides itself on a food offering that showcases local ingredients from across the full range of what Hereford has to offer. The couple design a menu alongside the team of in-house chefs, with options including lobster bisque to start, pork escalopes with a Calvados and peppercorn sauce, white chocolate creme brulee to finish. There’s also a large selection of vegetarian dishes, including roasted vegetable tart and a nut roast.
Guests and the couple can stay over both pre and post-wedding. There’s nine individually-decorated suites to choose from, some of which are steeped in period features, while others have been given a completely modern update. The Norfolk Suite is one of the more traditional offerings, its four poster bed meaning it makes for the perfect bridal suite.
