Glewstone Country house is a wedding venue near Ross-on-Wye in Herefordshire. It was built in the 19th century by Charles Ballinger, a wealthy landowner and Justice of the Peace and still retains its Georgian stylings and many period features. Other notable residents include Lieutenant Colonel Basil Jackson, who fought in the Battle of Waterloo and supervised Napoleon’s living arrangements during his exile on St. Helena, and Lieutenant General Sir Francis Poitiers Nosworthy, Commander in Chief of Allied Forces in West Africa during the Second World War. It has been available for hire since 1972 and was bought by the current owners in 2014.
All weddings at Glewstone Court are exclusive hire. The venue is also licensed to conduct civil ceremonies, meaning the whole day can take place under one roof. Its location in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty overlooking the Brecon Beacons provides the perfect backdrop for wedding photos, with highlights including a 350-year-old Cedar of Lebanon and beautifully landscaped gardens.
Weddings of all sizes are welcome, from small intimate gatherings of close loved ones to grand receptions. These are hosted in one of three rooms, each of which is filled with elegant features and Georgian grandeur. Ceremonies can also be hosted outside and those after a church wedding with the reception at Glewstone Court can choose from one of two local churches.
Glewstone prides itself on exceptional food and was awarded a 2 AA Rosette Award of culinary excellence. The couple can design the wedding breakfast menu suits them best, whether that’s a traditional three course sit down meal or something more contemporary. Whatever their choice, local ingredients from the surrounding Herefordshire countryside will always take centre stage.
The Gainsborough Suite is reserved for the newly married couple on their wedding night. This features a seven foot Palais Royal Avenue bed and overlooks the rolling hills beyond. It also makes for a great place for the bridal party to get ready in the morning.
