east London founders Terri and Katie take inspiration from their coastal, southern Ireland upbringings and use imperfect, wild flowers in their natural arrangements, which are reminiscent of those you’d see in Renaissance paintings. David Bowie enthusiasts and lovers of the unconventional, Maired and Athena (aka Rebel Rebel) have been on the floristry scene since 2000 when they set up their business for the simple reason of ‘loving flowers’. Since then, they’ve worked with the likes of Vogue, Bafta and Bompas and Parr to create arrangements and installations that get guests talking. Giant cages dressed with clients’ favourite, seasonal buds (like fluffy mimosas and butterfly rananculus) make for bang-on-trend designs, while hanging floral streamers and statement staircase pieces are especially Insta worthy.
Modern art is the basis for this lively (and relatively young) floral design company. Founders Lizzie Powell and Latoyah Lovatt see themselves as ‘trendsetters’ in the industry, creating pieces since 2012 for the likes of

Sexy Fish and celebrity couples (they recently did the flowers for Millie Mackintosh and Hugo Taylor’s wedding). How are they trendsetters? Well, unlike a lot of the other companies mentioned in this list, they make use of mixed media to create their designs, from neon lighting to spray paints, glass shards and balloons. Its speciality? If you like the sound of a floral tipi complete with a birch wood swing at your next event, then Amie Bone Flowers will not disappoint. Based in London and Hertfordshire, self-taught florist Amie and her team make some of the most inventive installations in the industry and are up for creating (just about) anything event organisers throw at them. Sprawling and, seemingly, untamed table runners? Check. Uplit and dramatic flower walls? Not a problem. Huge, alfresco floral frames for photo opportunities? These guys are the pros.
Domed roses are on Sarah Loughrey-Jennings’s no-go list. When she set up Hiding in the City Flowers in 2013, she wanted to make less corporate, non-stereotypical arrangements that still made events look luxe. Enter her lush, jungle-esque, greenery-leaning displays. British flowers are the staple buds for these guys (meaning seasonality has a heavy bearing on flower choice) and creations range from venue window dressing, to imaginative displays, installations and table pieces. If there is one florist on this list that screams ‘2018’, Hiding in the City Flowers is it.
These guys have been on our hot list for a while (it’s hard to forget a poodle made out of pink posies). The award-winning Ricky Paul and his team are responsible for some of the most whimsical designs in the events industry, taking inspiration from fashion, theatre and set designs to create their masterpieces. Table centres featuring carousel horses and life-size seal figurines balancing round bouquets on their noses are the level of whimsy we’re talking, but the team can also do more conventional (but no less impressive) displays.
The owner of this floral design company, Gus Cavanagh, started working in the industry at none other than Rebel Rebel (mentioned near the top of this list). While there, he made arrangements for state figures such as the Pope and the Queen – no wonder then that he’s made the list with his own venture. The team at Augustus Bloom can turn their hand to all sorts of corporate floral arrangements, with as much experience in opulent formal table dressing as stripped back, more natural designs (think milk jars filled with dried wheat and leaves). The team’s mantra is ‘spreading the floral joy’ – we’re sure HRH would agree.

Shoreditch in 1991, McQueens has established itself as one of the UK’s most sought-after florists. So much so, that its designs aren’t limited to British soil - Hollywood and Hong Kong’s events organisers are big fans too. High-profile parties are McQueens raison d’etre with Vanity Fair’s post-Oscar party and the All England Club’s Wimbledon Championships’ Ball in its portfolio, so there’s no doubt you’d be in very experienced hands. From sweeping staircase arrangements to colossal ballroom centrepieces, these guys are the ones to choose for wow factor.
With immersive events on the up in the industry, Event Trees is a one-stop-shop for transforming events spaces into other worlds. How does an enchanted tunnel with ivy creepers sound? Or a The Hobbit-inspired door as the entrance to your event? Of course, the team can also provide trees for more conventional events. Inventive table centres and chandeliers for gala dinners are an option, as are white picket fences and floral dividers for exhibitions. We love the decorative standalone trees: varieties range from silver birches and cherry blossoms, to wisterias and autumnal trees.
