About

Zocalo in Soho is a Mexican-Californian restaurant inspired by the taquerias in San Francisco’s Mission District, serving up tasty tacos and a punchy cocktail list featuring plenty of tequila and mezcal-based drinks. The concept mixes traditional Mexican cuisine with fresh Californian food culture. Zocalo is the name of Mexico City’s largest square and is designed to reflect a place where people gather to meet, socialise and eat good food with friends.

This vibrant venture comes from none other than Jose Fonte, the well-known footballer who’s played for the likes of Crystal Palace and West Ham. Jose, alongside business partners Andre Martin (previously at Zuma and Roka) and Pretesh and Shic Amlani, have franchised what’s already a very popular restaurant over in Northern Europe. The original idea is based around build-your-own bowls of Latin-American food, where customers choose what they want, and see it made in front of them.

The menu at Zocalo features a range of Mexican-inspired classics, including tacos, burritos, quesadillas, nachos and salads. Most options see diners pick their own protein - think pulled jackfruit, chipotle grilled chicken or carnitas pork to name a few - which is then added to a dish of their choice.

Examples of dishes on the menu include a Dolores Green quesadilla topped with cheese, slaw, corn salsa pico de gallo, pickled onion, salsa verde and guacamole, and a Block Party Bowl featuring either rice or salad, slaw, svarta bonor, nachos, BBQ sauce and chipotle cream. There’s also a kids’ menu as well as vegan and gluten-free options to suit everyone.

On the drinks front, choose from a variety of familiar cocktails including Margaritas, Palomas and Caipirinhas. While a selection of wines, beers and soft drinks, like aguas frescos, complete the offering.

Zocalo Soho is expected to be the first of many branches to open in London. Watch this space.
