There aren’t many, if any, pubs as versatile as Yates on Portland Street in Manchester. Despite its somewhat unusual location (sandwiched between Chinatown, the coach station and Canal Street), this pub is a true hub for locals, students and visitors alike. It’s open for breakfast, bottomless brunch, lunch, dinner and really anything else you can think of. In the double-height space, you’ll find stylish white brick and plenty of windows to fill the room with natural light throughout the day.
A great spot to grab a quick and hearty breakfast without breaking the bank, Yates offers up a tasty breakfast burger (think full English crammed into a brioche bun), as well as veggie and vegan options too. If, however, you’re here for a bottomless, you can choose from similar food options with the addition of 90 minutes of unlimited beer, cider, Prosecco or fruit juice.
The all-day food menu features all the pub classics you might expect. Start off with the likes of onion rings, scampi, wings, cheesy mac bites or garlic bread topped with cheese. There are also more global small plates, such as katsu chips or onion bhaji. The burgers, meanwhile, include plenty of options such as the BBQ mac, chicken katsu, three-bean chilli, burning hot (with Carolina reaper chilli) or a more classic bacon cheeseburger. Elsewhere, you’ll find other staples like mac and cheese, sausages and mash, steak and ale pie, all-day breakfast or cod and chips. If you’re extra hungry, don’t miss the chip shop platter, featuring cod and chips, battered sausage, chip shop curry sauce, tartare sauce, peas and bread and butter.
Desserts here are just as decadent as the mains, with entries like sticky toffee pudding, cookie apple pie and Lotus Biscoff sundae loaded with Belgian chocolate sauce and topped with marshmallows. Keep an eye out for the daily deals too!
