SquareMeal Review of Wiveton Hall Café

Decked out like a folksy kids’ playroom, this funky daytime café runs hand in hand with Wiveton Hall and its highly productive farm. Food ‘miles’ are more likely to be measured in ‘yards’ here, as the little eatery is surrounded by fields of PYO asparagus, strawberries, raspberries and artichokes, with free-range chickens scratching about in the earth. ‘From farm to table’ is the kitchen’s seasonal mantra and it makes great use of local provisions for a straight-talking lunch menu of soups, terrines, savoury tarts and dishes such as pan-fried pigeon breast with a salad of ham hock, roasted beetroot and Puy lentil salad. The freshly baked cakes are also a joy to behold. It’s said to be a favourite of Norfolk goddess Delia Smith, and Kate Middleton has eaten here too. Book ahead to be sure of a seat.

Breakfast with a view

We walked here for breakfast along the coast path, you can access the grounds with the cafe directly from the path. The cafe is cheerful and clean, with disinfectant wipes at all tables. They have had to make pandemic adjustments, but tables are well spaced out and whilst all seating is outside, there are small garden sheds and a covered areas you can retreat to if it gets too breezy. The coffee was good, the bacon was excellent and the staff was delightful.

RUBBISH WIVETON

Been today drove off to find a good cafe at Holt garden centre…!! Wiveton is a shambles. Staff not knowing what they were doing, telling people there were to many in the shop. Could see the signage…!! Well over priced to sit in scout tents to have a coffee. Would not advise anyone to visit. Just a money making game. Is NOT normal for Norfolk….
