As cocktails are the new black, a new bar was a no-brainer when Harvey Nics revamped its menswear lower-ground floors. The result is the oh-so tasteful Wallpaper* Bar + Kitchen, which incorporates a café serving small plates, superfood salads and shakes. It’s a busily designed, low-ceilinged venue, shoe-horned in between designer labels and displays of high-tech gizmos. Bolly Special Cuvée (a snip at £110, ‘sweetie’) is on hand for the Absolutely Fabulous crowd, as are the pick of the planet’s hippest sips: Grocery & Grog Old-Fashioned (from The Dead Rabbit, NYC); Paper Anniversary (gin and ‘homemade paper syrup’, from Little Red Door, Paris) and Word Up (Grey Goose vodka, ginger, Chartreuse and lime) from Door 74, Amsterdam – all at £13. Toronto, the orange blossom-smoked Manhattan served here (with maple syrup, bourbon and Fernet Branca) is attributed to Shoreditch’s Nightjar: a boozy basement that some might well prefer to this place.
